We care about your family's privacy and data security

Introduction

At Tiny Moments Studio, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Tiny Speller application. Tiny Speller is designed for use by children ages 3 to 7 with their parent or guardian, and we have built it to collect as little information as possible. Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the application.

Information stored on your device

The following are stored locally in the app and never sent to us:

  • Word sets you create (set name, words, colour)
  • App settings (game mode, keyboard layout, child's age, voice language)
  • Photos you choose from your library or camera as custom word images
  • Score history for each word set

You can delete this information at any time by deleting individual word sets in the app, or by uninstalling Tiny Speller.

Information sent to our servers (AI features)

Tiny Speller offers two optional AI features for paid (Pro) users:

  • AI image generation — when you tap "Generate with AI" on a word, the word itself is sent to our Cloud Function, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API to generate a picture.
  • AI word-set generation — when you ask the app to generate a word set on a topic, the topic, requested word count, and child's age are sent to our Cloud Function, which forwards them to Gemini.

Along with each request, we send a pseudonymous app user identifier (a random ID provided by RevenueCat) so we can verify your subscription and enforce monthly fair-use quotas. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or device.

Cached AI images

To keep the app fast and reduce AI generation costs, AI-generated images are cached on our servers (Firebase Storage), keyed by the word itself (e.g. "elephant.jpg") — not by user. The cache is shared across all users, so the same word may return a previously-generated image. The cache contains only AI-generated pictures of common words; it does not contain anything personal.

Usage analytics and crash reports

Like most apps, Tiny Speller collects anonymous usage analytics and automatic crash reports if the app stops unexpectedly. None of this is linked to your child's name, email, or any personal information — it helps us understand how the app is being used and fix bugs faster.

Subscriptions

In-app purchases for Tiny Speller Pro are handled by the app store you used to install the App (Apple or Google). We use RevenueCat to verify subscription status. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous app user identifier and the subscription receipt from the app store. We do not see or store your payment method, billing address, or app store account ID.

Third parties

Tiny Speller works with the following third parties to provide its features, each subject to their own privacy practices:

  • Apple (App Store) — handles in-app purchases on iOS.
  • Google (Play Store) — handles in-app purchases on Android.
  • RevenueCat — verifies subscription status.
  • Google Firebase (Cloud Functions, Firestore, Storage) — hosts our backend.
  • Google Gemini — generates AI images and word lists.

Children's privacy

Tiny Speller is designed for children ages 3 to 7, used together with a parent or guardian:

  • We do not collect personal information from children.
  • All access to settings, in-app purchases, and AI features is gated behind a parental gate (an arithmetic challenge designed to be unsolvable by young children).
  • Parents control all data: there are no accounts to lose, and uninstalling the app removes everything stored locally.

Data retention

AI usage records are kept on our servers only as long as needed to enforce monthly quotas (typically the current and previous month). Cached AI images are kept indefinitely so common words remain free for all users to download. Subscription receipts are retained as required by the relevant app store and RevenueCat for billing and tax purposes.

Your rights

Because Tiny Speller does not collect personal information or maintain user accounts, there is no profile to access or delete on our side. To remove all your data:

  • Delete the app — this removes all locally-stored word sets, photos, and settings.
  • Cancel your subscription via the subscriptions area of the app store you purchased through (Apple ID or Google account settings).
  • Email us if you would like us to remove the AI quota record associated with your device.

Security

All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS / TLS). Data on our servers is hosted by Google Firebase, which provides industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when we last revised it. For material changes, we will update the policy in advance and note the change in app updates.
